How many holidays do kids have in different countries?

Holidays is the first and foremost factor for the students at the start of every new year, and this adds more to their joy if they find any unexpected holiday getting coalesced with their weekend to make it long leave from the monotonous routine. However, not all the countries offer the same holidays to the school going kids rather there seems to have different respite days in different countries.

The difference lies in the fact that cultures are different, events are different, and most importantly climate and weather behavior is different in different countries. All these factors play an important role in deciding the holidays for kids. Here we’ll discuss some countries and their trend in offering holidays to their kids.

  1. China

Chinese schools in Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Taipei, which consistently top the OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) world ranking tables, have summer holidays of approximately one month (this varies by region), and Chinese pupils often spend their breaks attending additional classes or studying for exams. Students in the UK attend schools only for 190 days a year. Students enjoy the rest of the days as their holidays, the major portion of which is composed of summer vacations, Christmas and New Year break. The longest break in the school year is during summer, lasting between 5 and 14 weeks.

  1. United States

Students in the United States only attend school for 180 days a year while the rest of the days count towards their holidays which comprise of national holidays, summer vacations, Christmas break and other necessary holidays. In predominantly Christian countries, the “Christmas holidays” (or “winter break” or “winter recess” in some countries) include both the Christmas and New Year holidays. They normally last for about 2–3 weeks. The longest break in the school year is during summer, lasting between 5 and 14 weeks.

  1. Pakistan

In Pakistan, students usually attend around 200 days at the school with 165 days as the holidays. The major portion of holidays is accounted by summer vacations which last for around 100 days, starting from the end of May and last till the last week of August. Winter break and spring break is also given to enjoy the seasons to their fullest.

Being a dominant Muslim country, Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha (Festival Names so you don’t have to hire a translator) holidays are given for around ten days. Rest of the holidays are of national importance. However, there is no New Year or Christmas break given.

  1. Brazil

In Brazil, summer holidays start in December and end in the late January or early February. Winter holidays last for a month only, and this usually falls in July. Brazilian schools must have at least 200 school days. Some national and Catholic holidays are usually celebrated in 3 or 4 days, like Easter, Corpus Christi, and Carnival.

  1. Canada

The summer holidays in Canada last for two months, starting in July and end in August. The winter break is for two weeks beginning on Saturday, and it includes the Christmas and New Year’s Day break as well. In some parts, spring break is a four-day-long weekend between Good Friday and Easter Monday.
