The best cities you should visit this summer to learn…Spanish!

While Spanish is the fourth most commonly spoken language in the world, beaten only by English, Chinese and Hindi in this regard, it is not as diversely spread out in the world like the other common languages in the world, unlike English and French, being spoken mostly in South and Central America. It is, however, still a great language to learn, and can even help you in your professional career, since many employers favor hiring people who can speak Spanish. With that being said, here are some of the best cities to visit this summer if you’re planning to learn Spanish.

Mexico City, Mexico

When it comes to cities where Spanish is common, there is no city more famous than Mexico City. Being not only the largest city in Mexico but also the largest in the Spanish speaking world, there is absolutely no doubt it is one of the best places to visit if you want to learn Spanish over the summer. English speakers, however, are at a greater advantage if learning Spanish from Mexico City, since being the direct neighbor of the United States of America has led to a rise in popularity of English in Mexico over the years.

Barcelona, Spain

It would be a great disservice not to mention a Spanish city when listing cities one could visit to learn Spanish, and what better entry to this list than Barcelona? Although not as large in population as some of the other cities on this list, Barcelona still checks the record for being a populous Spanish speaking city, where one could easily learn the language if he wished to do so. However, visiting Barcelona is also a great idea because there is so much to do there and so many sights to see. After all, who says learning a new language can’t be fun?

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Buenos Aires is the capital and most populated city of Argentina. Its name translates to “fair winds,” a great compliment to this beautiful city, home to some of the best tourist attractions in all of Latin America, including its well-preserved Spanish/European style architecture. It has earned its spot in the top 100 cities with the best lifestyle in the world and is also considered one of the best tourist destinations, often holding important international events, like the FIFA World Cup matches.

While its flourishing tourism industry has turned it into a melting pot of different cultures from all over the world, the people still speak fluent Spanish, which makes Buenos Aires a worthy addition to this list.

Bogota, Columbia

Being the largest city in a country does have its perks. For one, Bogota is arguably the most important city in Columbia, being named the political, economic, administrative, industrial, artistic, cultural, and sports center of the country. On the other hand, Bogota is also a great place for foreigners to come and learn Spanish, with it being its official language. However, the most interesting aspect of learning Spanish from Bogota has to be its particular dialect; it has been described as arguably the clearest dialect of Spanish in the entire world, a particularly attractive aspect for those wishing to learn Spanish abroad.
