Analysing the lyrics of “In my feelings” by Drake

“Scorpion” by Drake was unleashed upon the world on June 29th, ending the anticipation and the month with a bang. The song “In my feelings” debuted at the no.6 on the Billboard Hot 100. This was the sixth greatest song in the rapper’s career yet. But Instagram comedian Shiggy took it upon himself to boost it up and dubbed the Do the Shiggy or the Kiki Challenge. You could say he was unsatisfied with the song’s current position.

The video quickly went viral. It has tweeted in the millions and countless celebrities, even Drake himself di the Kiki challenge. With this, it jumped straight to no. One where it now stands. The song talks about different girls Drake met and dated in the past, sending a message “he is up for meeting anytime.”

This is Drake’s first collab with producer TrapMoneyBenny along with BlaqNmilD who he’s worked with in the past. It isn’t easy translating and comprehending the meaning of Drake’s song. But don’t worry you won’t have to hire a professional translator for this as we’ll help you out!

Who are Kiki and KB?

The Chorus of the song has two variations. The first variation goes like:

Kiki, do you love me? Are you riding?

Say you’ll never ever from beside me

‘Cause I want ya, and I need ya

And I’m down for you always

KB, do you love me? Are you riding?

Say you’ll never leave from beside me

‘Cause I want ya, and I need ya

And I’m down for you always

This sent countless followers of Drake into suspecting and trying to find out who Kiki & KB are. This was soon followed by a tweet by Keisha Chanté; “he put it in a song, so I know it’s real.” He was involved romantically with her in the past. But the woman found out to be both Kiki & KB was k’yanna barber. She was much more recently involved than the former. And has specifically tweeted about it multiple times.

This made much more sense as it follows her initials, KB later in the lyrics.

The City Girls

‘Resha, do you love me? Are you riding?

Say you’ll never ever from beside me

‘Cause I want ya, and I need ya

And I’m down for you always

J.T., do you love me? Are you riding?

Say you’ll never ever leave from beside me

‘Cause I want ya, and I need ya

And I’m down for you always

The second variation, however, replaces the names with Resha & J.T. These girls are unlike the ones above. They are a well-known rap duo ‘City Girls”. He simply asks them if they remember him and miss him.

Magnolia Shorty and Lil Wayne

Some New Orleans Bounce is fused into the song by Drake when he samples Magnolia Shorty’s (murdered in 2010) “Smoking Gun.”

He also samples his mentor Lil Wayne, from his biggest Grammy-winning hit “Lollipop” from Tha Carter III, 2008. That song had five golden weeks on the top of the Billboard and has its lyrics dubbed and translated to various languages.

Jennifer Lopez

The song also references a 2002 hit of Jennifer Lopez and “Jenny From the Block” Drizzy was linked to the Bronx-bred star in late 2016. Drake has sampled J-Lo on More Life’s “Teenage Fever.”

Zazie Beetz

The lyrics close out with a scene from Donald Glover’s Atlanta series. Van by Zazie Beetz. She asserts her desire for a selfie with Drizzy to shock her friends on Instagram. The title of the episode is “Champagne Papi” (Drakes insta account name). Her friends get fooled into attending an NYE banger at Drake’s mansion but turn out he isn’t even there.
